NEW DELHI: According to a circular released by the Directorate of Education, the Delhi government has lowered the budget for administering exams at government schools from Rs 125 to Rs 90 per student for 2022–23.
The Directorate of Education’s circular stated, “All heads of government schools are hereby advised that appropriate budget allocation — Rs 90 per student from Class 1 to Class 11 — has been granted to the schools for conduct of exams for the year 2022-23.”
The expenditure is limited to Rs 90 per student rather than Rs 125, according to the statement’s further explanation, due to a “shortage of funding.” The circular also stated that “Demand of more budget would not be accepted.”
According to Sant Ram, District Secretary (West-A) of the Government School Teachers Association, “because the day-to-day cost of things has been increasing,” future budget cuts by the government in education will be yet another issue for the schools.
Mr. Ram mentioned that the municipal government has lowered financing in a number of other areas in addition to education.

According to Mr. Ram, the local trips were initially suspended after the pandemic hit in 2020 and then resumed just for Classes 8 and 9.
