Dehradun: The Uttarakhand state government resolved on Friday to enact a harsh law to ban the use of unfair techniques in examinations, making it illegal with even life imprisonment. This decision was made in response to the frequent reports of paper leak instances in the state. The choice was made one day after five people, among them a section officer with the Uttarakhand Public Service Commission, were detained here on Thursday for allegedly leaking the exam questions from the patwari and accountant recruitment exams that were held on Sunday.
The decision to introduce a stronger rule to restrict the use of unfair tactics was made at a cabinet meeting on Friday, according to Chief Secretary S. S. Sandhu. According to him, “the new law will establish a provision for a maximum sentence of life imprisonment for anyone found guilty of employing unfair tactics in examinations, in addition to confiscating their money obtained via the practise.”
According to Mr. Sandhu, a new accounting recruitment exam will now be held. Candidates who previously applied for the exam are not required to do so again. They don’t need to pay any fees or purchase tickets to get to the testing locations in buses operated by Uttarakhand Roadways. He stated that their admissions cards will act as tickets.
The Special Task Force detained five people in this city on Thursday, including section officer Danjov Chaturvedi and his wife Ritu, for selling at least 35 candidates the question paper for the patwari and accountant recruitment exam the day before it was scheduled to be given, according to Superintendent of Police (STF) Ayush Agrawal. For the 563 openings in the exam that was held last Sunday, more than 50,000 people applied. Three recruitment tests administered by the Uttarakhand Subordinate Services Selection Commission last year have already revealed irregularities.
