GUWAHATI: An official decree stated on Sunday that preventative measures had been started against the “impending pandemic” after more than 270 cases of dengue had been found in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district during the previous five days.

According to the directive issued by the chief secretary of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council, all public and private schools and institutions located within the boundaries of the Diphu Municipal Board and the Greater Diphu Town region would be closed from Monday through Saturday. According to a press statement from the National Health Mission (NHM), Assam, 271 of the 285 dengue cases discovered in the region between November 1 and November 5 originated in the Karbi Anglong district. Kamrup Metropolitan District recorded eight instances out of the remaining 14. While two cases were reported in Nalbari, Charaideo, Kamrup (Rural), Nagaon, and Hojai each had one.

In order to assess the situation and support the district team in controlling the outbreak, the Mission Director of NHM-Assam, MS Lakshmi Priya, travelled to the affected regions in Karbi Anglong during the day. The NHM release stated that “the situation in Karbi Anglong is under careful observation and all precautionary measures are being taken to tackle the issue.”
